Selection of Men’s Ties

Friday, July 24th, 2009

The history of tie’s dates back to the 19th century when men used to wear kerchiefs around their necks as scarfs. These scarfs over the period of time have evolved to be the ties of today. What started off as a random accessory in early days , has now become an important element of the formal attire for men. Not to say, we also have bow type ties, festive ties and pocket squares which are accessorized with occasional wear .

Silk, is the most common fabric in which ties are available and these are mostly the luxury brands. The smooth texture and the impeccable appearance is what makes these more appealing. The variety of single and mixed colors in which these are available makes them the most chosen and can be matched with any type of shirts. Next in line of fondness would be the microfiber ties which are of a blended material and are more on the affordable range. The correct way of tying a tie also brings out the elegance and loveliness of it.

The light colored ties in stripes are more trendy this season and shades of pink, light blue and turquoise are the favorite lot. Pink and light blue ones have (more…)

Can You Live Without It?

First it was the tin can and string. How about the crank up phone? Remember rotary dial? Push button replaced was next on the scene. Cordless phones crept in allowing greater mobility. Did technology stop there? No. We asked for a car phone and we got one. Then the greatest discovery of them all – the cell phone. What an ingenious way to bring even the most brilliant man to an obsessive need.

Nary a person in today’s society is without this little gadget. How many of you have gone off on an errand or work and realized your grown-up “binky” has been left behind? Panic sets in when you can’t find your cell phone. All of you who have gone back at least once to get it, raise your hand. Be honest.

Go into any mall and you will find hordes of kiosks selling these indispensible items. Look around, cell phones are everywhere, whether clipped to a pocket, belt, or “glued” to an ear. There’s flip phones, pay as you go phones, even cell phones that double as a walkie-talkies. Who knows, fashion designers one day might create cell phone earrings or watches.

Cell phones are hardly a new discovery these days, but they are becoming a fashionable commodity. Purses now have special compartments, jackets have little pockets, even book bags and cars have designated storage areas. (more…)

Fear Not, There is Hope

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

If you’re a female, you know the one thing we hate – shopping for bras. If you’ve ever gone bra shopping and come out unscathed you are one of the lucky ones. Bras are not a “one size fits all”, but the manufacturers would like us to think so. Sure, each brand has different sizes, but we women seem to navigate toward the ones that we feel will make us more attractive. So, many bras, so little time; how does one choose? We say to ourselves “I bought a size 34B at the department store last time, so I’ll start there.”

In our endeavor to find the oh-so-perfect bra that we somehow think will conjure up Mr. Right, we immediately gravitate toward the colorful, lacy bras. Then our eyes spot the underwire (albeit the most uncomfortable), the 3-way, the 5-way, the padded bra for that little extra oomph, and so on and so forth, you get the idea. Elated that we’ve found a bra for every occasion, we head off to the fitting room to try them on. Too tight. Too loose. Breasts peek out the bottom of that one. This one squishes the “girls” like sausages in a casing. Disgusted but not dissuaded, we give the bras to the salesperson and leave empty handed.

Store after store, bra after bra it’s the same thing. But it doesn’t have to be. There is hope, ladies, really. There is a formula for getting the perfect fitting bra. First, you need to get a tape measure and figure out your band size. You get this by measuring around your rib cage directly under the breast. (You should write that number down because if you are like me, you may run out of fingers very quickly.) To that number, add 5”. (more…)

Sarees , which were once put out of the international fashion wardrobe due to the draping hassles are now back with a bang in the form of pre-stitched sarees. Designers and fashion conscious women are now preferring these as the pre-stiched sarees come with all the pleats stitched and the 6 metre saree is neatly wrapped so, all you have to do is to just wear it on like a long skirt.

Added on, you have the pallu (the extension over the shoulder) also pleated and stitched so, all you have to do is to just wear it and all it takes is just five minutes. So women who love the Indian clothing can now easily wear these designer sarees minus the hassles of tucking and pleating.
The main aspect to be focussed on, in these pre-stitched sarees is to, ensure the fit of the saree and the readymade blouse is perfect to your figure, before picking it for your wardrobe. Ensure you go for a saree which is suiting you best on the colour aspect and also in shape. You can always get the finest fit done with the help of the tailors at the store as most of the outlets do the alteration free of charge. The readymade blouses should be checked for the fit of the bust, hands and the neckline. These readymade sarees come out in a variety of fabrics like the benares, pattu and silk and create an authentic and elegant look. The trend in these pre-stitched sarees is the “double pallu” ones in contrasting colours like blue, green and red. The authentic look of the saree lies in the combination of colours and matching of the blouse. Also, we have sarees available in twin materials, like five meters of the saree is beautifully embroidered in motifs with stitched pleats in one colour and the one meter pallu in a different fabric, mostly benares in another colour. It is the contrast of these colours and the beautiful embroidery work done that gives the saree a (more…)

Toe rings are the new accessories creating a sensation on the fashion circuit and are a hot item on the accessories list. Just as every other accessory has adorned women’s body these have come to beautify the toes. There are wide reasons why women prefer these toe rings and these vary as per the cultures and countries. History claims that toe rings have been in use in the south asian countries to declare the marital status of a women and married woman were supposed to wear them as per tradition.
